Description

• Terminalia bellirica (Gaertn.) Roxb. is one of the oldest medicinal herbs of India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as well as South-East Asia. Its medicinal utility has been described in the different traditional medicinal systems, such as Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, and traditional Chinese medicine.
• Terminalia bellirica, known as baheda, bahera, behada, beleric or bastard myrobalan, Persian , Sanskrit: Bibhitaka, Aksha is a large deciduous tree in the Combretaceae family. It is common on the plains and lower hills in South and Southeast Asia, where it is also grown as an avenue tree. 

Uses:

• Abstract. Plants of the genus Terminalia are amongst the most widely used plants for traditional medicinal purposes worldwide. Many species are used for their antibacterial, antifungal, antiprotozoal, antiviral, antidiarrhoeal, analgesic, antimalarial, antioxidant, antiinflammatory and anticancer activities.
• The fruit of T. bellirica has been consumed as food by several ethnic groups of Nepal [15]. The fruits have laxative, astringent, anthelmintic and antipyretic properties and are used in Ayurveda against various disorders like hepatitis, bronchitis, asthma, dyspepsia, piles, diarrhea, coughs, eye diseases.
